Marrianne Williamson

(July 8, 1952 – Present)

Marianne Deborah Williamson is an American author, lecturer and spiritual teacher. She has published numerous bestselling books. She is also the co-founder of The Peace Alliance, a grassroots campaign which supports legislation to establish a United States Department of Peace. Williamson serves on the Board of Directors of the RESULTS organization, which strives towards ending poverty in the United States and around the world. Williamson is also the producer of the Sister Giant Conferences, which highlights the intersection of spirituality and politics.

Williamson was born to a Jewish family in Houston, Texas. Her father Samuel was an immigration lawyer, and her mother, Sophie Ann, a Homemaker. She has two older siblings. After graduating from Bellaire High School, Marianne began attending Pomona College in Claremont, California to study theater and philosophy. She dropped out in her Junior year and moved to New York City to pursue a career as a cabaret singer. Williamson has one child, named India Emmaline, born in 1990. Marianne chose to raise her daughter on her own, and does not identify or discuss the father.

In 1979, Williamson returned to Houston. Around this time she began running a small metaphysical bookstore. In 1987 she helped found the Los Angeles Center for Living, a support facility for those dealing with life-threatening illnesses. In 1989, she founded Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program that serves homebound people living with AIDS in the Los Angeles area. In 1990 Williamson had her only child, India Emmaline. Marianne chose to raise her daughter on her own, and does not identify or discuss the father.

Marianne Williamson has been a guest on television programs such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, Charlie Rose, and Real Time with Bill Maher. Williamson bases much of her teachings and writings on a set of books called A Course in Miracles, a spiritual self-study program.

Williamson regularly does lectures via online streaming platforms, and occasionally does live appearances and lectures at events throughout the United States
